Teaching and Learning Policy (Updated March 2023)
Kym Corridan @ Piano Lessons: Music through English Salzburg

Like all piano teachers I have a teaching and learning policy. This is so that everyone is clear about what you can expect from me and what I can expect from you whilst you undertake tuition.

 LESSONS:

  1. Booked lessons take place at the time and location agreed by both student and teacher. Late students only receive the remaining time they have booked and paid for. However if I the teacher is late to the lesson then the time will be made up.
  2. Home practice notes will be given to the student containing details of what the student is expected to complete at home before the next lesson. Parents of young children (ages 5 to 8 years of age) are expected to help with this, and are also invited to sit in on piano lessons with their children to aid home practice.
  3. Please note that your lesson fee covers not only teaching contact time, but also other fees such as the cost of transport, insurance, resources, and all teacher-student contact engaged in outside of the in-person lesson time.

LESSON PAYMENT:

  1.  All lessons must be paid by bank transfer. Due to accounting processes, cash and cheques are no longer accepted.
  2. All term lessons must be paid in full via bank transfer in the first three weeks of term. Invoices must be paid in full after the third term lesson. If term payment is not paid before the fourth lesson, remaining term lessons may be cancelled (*in exceptional circumstances please contact Kym directly).
  3. Piano lessons are a weekly commitment and students must pay in full for all term lessons in order to reserve they place in the studio. The teacher will offer students one make-up lesson per term and additional lessons cancelled by the student are not guaranteed to be made-up (see below).

 LESSON CANCELLATION:

  1. If the teacher cancels a piano lesson due to sickness or unavoidable circumstances, then the lesson will be made-up at a later time and date. The teacher sets aside one week at the end of every term for make-up or rescheduled lessons.
  2. If the student cancels the lesson due to sickness or unavoidable circumstances then the teacher will do their best to re-schedule the lesson (see below) however this is not guaranteed. The teacher is under no obligation to make-up a lesson when a student cancels a scheduled lesson.
  3. There is one week at the end of every term set aside for make-up or rescheduled lessons. Students who missed a lesson during the term due to sickness or unavoidable circumstances will be offered a lesson slot the last week of the term. For example if there are 10 weeks in a term, then the 11th week will be reserved for rescheduled lessons due to sickness, etc. Please note that it may not be possible for additional rescheduled lessons outside of this time due to scheduling constraints.

HOME PRACTICE:

  1. Regular practice is a key part of learning the piano. The aim of regular practice is to reinforce what has been learnt in your lessons which improves playing. It is expected that parents will assist younger children with home practice. It is up to the student whether or not they practice regularly, however students who do not practice enough will find that their progress will slow - the more you practice the quicker you will progress!

By enrolling in piano lessons with Kym @ Music through English Salzburg you accept this policy in full.
